Progressive Source Coding for a Power Constrained Gaussian Channel

Abstract
For a power constrained Gaussian channel we determine the energy per
bit for a BPSK transmitter and the channel code rate to minimize the
end-to-end average quantizer distortion for certain progressive source
coders. This provides an additional degree of freedom with respect to
previously proposed schemes, and therefore can achieve higher overall
performance for sources such as images.
